A Coruña & Rías Altas (1 Day)

It will take approximately 2 hours from Santiago de Compostela to Cedeira.

Ancient legends of Celtic oral tradition that share Galicia and Ireland speak of Breogán, as king of this area and founder of the current city of A Coruña, the epicenter of this region. The landscape is a fusion of sea and mountain, with a coastline of beautiful beaches, some collected, located in the heart of the estuaries, others wild and open to the ocean. The terrain is becoming more difficult, reaching heights of over 500 m at the sea's edge, forming spectacular cliffs. It is a land of natural viewpoints, "cruceiros", forests, wild horses and legends.

Cedeira: it is a traditional fishing village, with an old area, narrow streets, composed of small and beautiful houses, some with coats of arms. Before arriving at Cedeira, you will be able to see numerous and beautiful beaches such as Vilarrube, Pantín and Valdoviño. In the vicinity of the latter is the Lagoa de Valdoviño. As a whole, sand and wetland form a natural space under a general protection regime.

San Andrés de Teixido: one of the most important places of worship and pilgrimage in Galicia. Legend has it that San Andrés arrived by boat to the cliffs of Teixido. It is known that the monastery of San Andrés already existed in the 12th century. A short distance from San Andrés de Teixido is the viewpoint of the Garita de Herbeira from where there are spectacular views of the largest cliff in Europe: 600 m. of fall on the sea, with a slope higher than 80%.

Ferrol: is the largest illustrated city in Europe made on the sea. A city traced with reason, marked by its octagonal urbanism, its linear and modernist architecture and the silhouette of its old naval industries. But the most important constructions of Ferrol are the castle of San Felipe, built at the entrance of the estuary by Felipe II, and the Military Arsenals, whose history dates back to the year 1749. Around them have been articulated much of the signs of identity of the city.

A Coruña: surrounded by the sea, its important ports - commercial, fishing and sports - speak of its marine vocation. Thanks to its marvellous promenade, the entire peninsula is crossed and the Celta Park and the Roman Lighthouse of Hercules, the oldest in the world in operation, is an unmistakable symbol of the city. The special union of the city with the sea can be seen with total clarity from the Mount of San Pedro, a privileged viewpoint that in the past occupied the coastal batteries and has been converted into an urban park.

During the day, our guide will suggest the best place to have your lunch. Do not forget that the Galician specialities are fish and shellfish from their coasts!

After the excursion, our driver will take you back to Santiago de Compostela.
